Some observations

Plants

Start Indoors: Outside Direct Seed: Don't bother: Try Indoors:
Swiss Chard Broccoli Cauliflower Parsley
Peppers Peas Corn Lettuce
Tomatoes  Bush Beans
Watermelon Cucumber
Cantaloupe Mustard Greens
Pumpkin Tobacco
Cotton
Sunflower
Squash
Zucchini
Artichokes
Fennel
Eggplant

Don't bother planting broccoli, cauliflower, tobacco, or peas inside.  They didn't transplant well or the in ground seeds did just as fine or better.

Plant artichokes and fennel indoors in Jan or Feb, they need to be bigger when they go out since they are planted early.

Start eggplant earlier, they only had 3 small leaves by end of May.

Tomatillos and Swiss Chard are doing amazingly well when started indoors.

Skip climbing beans next year, the Provider bush beans are doing so much better.

Watermelon, pumpkins, tomatoes, and peppers did great as transplants.

Sunflowers, start indoors next year otherwise squirrels eat the seeds.  As is the case with corn.  Skip the corn or start indoors.

Lettuce is not doing well started by seed outside. Carrots aren't doing that great either.  Wonder if has to do with the soil size compared to the seed size. The leaf mulch isn't fully decomposed, maybe try sprinkling dirt on top instead of the mulch.

Peas all are good. Mammoth Melting Sugar and Super Sugar Snap can be eaten whole and need to be planted away from Wondo Shelling so you can tell the difference.

Animals

We have voles, the pea gravel didn't work. They are eating my onions, fennel, parsley from last year, and the asparagus, fuckers. Thinking of maybe trying Bamboo Shield next year around the garden and asparagus patch.

The bunnies are eating my peas, maybe a short picket fence  to keep them out.  No chance at keeping squirrels out.  Although side note, the slinky on the hummingbird feeder post is doing an AMAZING job at keeping them away from the sugar water!
