Vegetable Garden
Skip the pumpkin, squash, and zucchini unless we want to use chemicals to stop Vine Borers.
Try MoschataTromboncino and other reistant varieties like C. moschata, C. mixta, or C. argyrosperma.

List of Native Pollinator Plants
Plant on the left side of the vegetable garden, full sun (or as full as you get in my yard). Place a small tree 5-6 feet max height towards the back, plant under and flowers to the front. Maybe move the blackberries to the fire pit area.
Try a Ruby Falls Weeping Rebud as the tree.
Lavender
These are some varieties that do well in the South:
Hidcote (lavandula angustifolia), Phenomenal, Provence, Munstead, and a bit of Spanish and Grosso
Lavandula x intermedia varieties -- 'Grosso' and 'Provence'
'Dutch', 'Hidcote' (Lavandula angustifolia)
How to plant lavender in the Southeast
Sunshine Lavender Farm
Why do you mulch the lavender with oyster shells?
There was a grant study done for a west coast lavender farm, and the benefits of that study revealed that the shells break down heavy soils, add nutrients that lavender appreciates, and reflect the sunlight, keeping the lavender dry. Keeping the lavender dry was key in our decision to have 12 tons of oyster shells delivered to the farm! (This is the most commonly asked question when folks visit our farm!)
What types of lavender does sunshine lavender farm grow?
There are many, many varieties of lavender and about a dozen that do well on our farm. We continue to try new ones. Some varieties include Dilly-Dilly, Grosso, Hidcote, Hidcote Giant, Munstead, Provence, Royal Velvet, and more.
How do I capture summer-long lavender blooms in the garden?
For bloom sequence for the summer gardener, try a Spanish lavender (Lavandula stoechas variety like Otto Quast) to bloom first. These are not always hardy through difficult winters of ice and wind, mind you. Lavandula angustifolia, like Hidcote (Memorial Day), then Lavendula intermedias like Provence (early June), then Grosso, Dilly Dilly and many, many others that bloom in mid-June. Left to fully flower, your garden will be blooming with some sort of lavender all summer long. Lavender blooms predominantly in early to mid summer. Shear the blooms when totally spent and perhaps you will even get a petite fall display! Our farm oftentimes enjoys a few lavender blooms up until Thanksgiving.
